X is behind in the race so Pottling is probably not ideal. Nor is
dumping behind the runner. 13/7 6/4 is the pure play and while riskier
than 13/5 seems to give more winning chances, and with the anchor
gammons should be relatively rare.

OTB I'd probably just play to the five point without over thinking it.

13/7 6/4.

I would probably play 13/9(2). Leaving the midpoint susceptible is
worth blocking sixes to me.

I don't know why but I saw 22 as the roll hence the previous play.

For 62 I will play 13/5 instead.

X is far enough behind in the pip count that he needs to be
aggressive in his priming/containment strategy.

*Pottling* should only be used when discussing one and only one checker back. In fact, if there was only one checker back here and the race was roughly the same I imagine running would be right.

https://bkgm.com/glossary.html#P

Pottle's Law
[Named for backgammon player Sam Pottle.] "Always run the last checker." If you have only one checker back, the best move is usually to run that checker. See post by Stick Rice.
