An early 55 is usually played 8/3(2) 6/1(2) hitting whatever blots may
be in the way. Here, it leaves blots on the 7 and 8 giving nine return
shots if I counted correctly. Is that too many? I don't think so.

Is there something better? The race becomes about even no matter what X
plays, so perhaps running is more thematic. Not sure, but I like the
blitz play. X has an advanced anchor, so can afford to play aggressively.
