International Non-binary People’s Day: Being seen is always the first step to equality

nternational Non-binary People’s Day is marked annually on 14 July. It falls mid-way between International Women’s Day (8 March) and International Men’s Day (19 November) thereby reflecting the wide range of people who identify as non-binary.

The best way to learn about non-binary identities is to listen to non-binary people. It was a pleasure interviewing my friend Lui Asquith, who is the Director of Legal and Policy at Mermaids.

Mermaids has been supporting trans, non-binary and gender-diverse children, young people and their families since 1995.

I began by asking Lui why International Non-binary People’s Day is important to them?

“Visibility! Having a day that provides non-binary people with an unapologetic and celebratory platform is crucial to not only uplift the community, but to also provide wider society the opportunity to learn about the wonderful array of non-binary experiences. I also hope that it gives those who are yet to come out an extra piece of empowerment to do so, and/or perhaps will be a day for some that they hear of the term for the first time and for the first time understand themselves. We all know that LGBTIQ lives have always been talked about and oppressed unjustifiably and these days of pride – the 14 July being one of them – are days that we take back the mic and ask people to listen.”

Another important Darwinian idea that has received renewed attention is the notion of sexual selection, or the idea that organisms may change because of features that are or are not selected by potential mates. Extended in parental investment theory (Trivers, 1972), this process implies that there will be both intersexual and intrasexual competition. In particular, as men and women bring different resources and needs to reproduction and child rearing, they will select mates who have complementary resources. This thesis implies gender differences in particular areas, such as in status-striving behavior. We wspolczesnym swiecie i spoleczenstwach
wszelakie domeny czy tez zbiory ludzkie maja
czesto tendencje kurczyc sie!

Powstaja nowe, inne domeny, i te rosna.

Powstanie nowej domeny "non-binary"
nie jest chyba grozne bo kazdy ma tam
prawo wstepu.

Co innego kurczenie sie domen/zbiorow
na zasadzie wykluczenia czy tez barier.

W III Rzeszy naprzyklad, mozna bylo przynalezec
do grona ludzkiego jednego dnia a nastepnego
obudzic sie i dowiedziec ze przynalezy sie juz
do calkiem innej domeny, innego zbioru
np. zbioru podludzi albo zbioru ludzkich
zwierzat.

Nie zamartwiala bym sie, panie Leszku
powstaniem nowej 'non-binary' domeny.

To trochę tak, jak dowiedzieć się prawdy.
Ale naziści byli zbrodniczy bardziej niż np. Stalin, ponieważ tę lekcję empiryczno-poglądową zderzenia z rzeczywistościom zafundowali tylko kilku nielubianym przez siebie narodom i grupom społecznym.
Nie mieli odwagi powiedzieć tego 90% społeczeństwa, a szczególnie tym, na których garbach (głosach elektorskich) weszli do Reichstagu.
Otóż prawda jest taka, że _każdy_ dosłownie ludź rodzi się podludziem i zwierzęciem niezależnie od genów.
Pełną godność człowieka nadają mu wychowanie, kultura i cywilizacja. I te, jeżeli człowiek nie będzie podążał za danymi mu wskazówkami i jeśli zaniecha trudu walki o samo-ucywilizowanie - mogą mu również je odebrać. To nie natura daje godność ludzką i to nie natura decyduje aby ją odebrać, ale inni ludzie na zasadzie niepisanej umowy społecznej. Nie daje ta umowa gwarancji, że umrzesz człowiekiem.
