I went to a mechanic, part of a large chain of mechanics, and got some
work done they said needed doing (rear shocks).

When I picked up the car the speakers didn't work anymore.

I took the car to a car audio guy and he said something has damaged the
rear speakers. I said the mechanic replaced the rear shocks, and he
said it must have been when that happened.

Can I demand the mechanic pays the cost of the speaker replacement, due
to the mechanic having broken the speakers, according to the car audio guy?

You can demand. Whether it happens is a different matter.

"Something has damaged" is rather vague. It doesn't sound like your
audio guy knows what is wrong with them. Are you sure they didn't just
get unplugged during the work, with the mechanic forgetting to plug them
back in?

"It didn't work" may be good enough for Windows 10 error messages, but
usually we need more.

To pursue this, you would need to get an independent report on the
nature of the damage to the speakers, how that could reasonably relate
to the replacement of the shock absorbers, and an estimate of the costs
of repairs.

Sylvia.

Its bullshit, replacing the rear shocks wouldnt fuck the speakers.

The rear shocks are near the rear speakers. It's likely the mechanic
was rough trying to access the shocks and damaged the speakers.

Pity the speakers are inside the car and the shocks arent.

The car audio guy it must have been the mechanic. The part of the car
where you get to the shocks is close the speakers, so they must have
been very rough with it.

The car audio guy said it was as though there had been a fire in that
area of the car.

Since the speakers only didn't work after I picked up the car from the
mechanic, it is too much of a coincidence that wasn't the mechanic who
broke the speakers.
