APPLETON - An Appleton Area School District teacher and coach
accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a female
student has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

Brian F. Dimmer, 46, of Grand Chute was taken into custody
Monday and confined at the Outagamie County Jail on charges of
exposing genitals, exposing a child to a harmful narrative,
soliciting an intimate representation and causing a child to
view or listen to sexual activity, police said.

Dimmer resigned during the course of the investigation, prior to
its conclusion, according to a letter to Appleton West High
School parents.

The charges come after the police were alerted of "inappropriate
contact" Dimmer had with a female student. Dimmer was a teacher
at Wilson Middle School and was a coach at Appleton West, police
said.

In the school district's letter, Dimmer was identified as a
"coaching staff member." The district website names Dimmer as a
special education teacher and eighth grade basketball coach at
Wilson, and a JV tennis coach at Appleton West.

The district says it will work with local law enforcement as the
investigation continues.

"While we cannot share more information due to our need to
protect the student and the nature of this investigation, we
want to reiterate that our first and most important
responsibility is the safety and well-being of all students,"
the letter stated. "We encourage any families or students who
are in need of support to reach out to student services staff."
