Sorry to provide a simple and non-political explanation which won’t make people’s blood boil, but there are a LOT of people in China and when we see many Chinese, in reality it’s stuff all in the overall scheme of things.

As a proportion of population, Chinese immigrants are probably way less than many others.

Having said that, Chinese do like to get out and about in the world and there are decent sized Chinese communities in most countries. Americans tend to like to stay in America. Here’s a good viewpoint of this from New Zealand. Chinese and Indians come here, Americans don’t - Where have New Zealand's migrants come from in the last four decades?

As regards Americans in China, it’s bloody difficult. They don’t have a policy that allows for a lot of immigration. There are plenty over there with work visas and quite a few who have residence via marriage, but you can’t really go to China to live as a matter of lifestyle choice unless you’re filthy rich or famous or whatever.

So I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but Chinese and American migration patterns have stuff all to do with the trade war or the economy. It’s all about population size, government policy and the pioneering or adventurous spirit of the culture.
