Austin Killips, a biological man who has secured numerous womens titles
in professional cycling, recently stirred debate by asserting that men are
underrepresented in womens sports. Killips criticized the discourse
surrounding transgender athletes.

In an article by the Knoxville News Sentinel, Killips expressed
frustration with the political landscape he has to navigate. He claimed
that the pushback against trans athletes is not based on legitimate
arguments.

Defending Trans Participation in Sports

Killips stated, Its certainly concerning that the nature of the
discourse, the amount of energy that has gone into building this narrative
would lead you to believe that theres this massive number of trans
athletes participating in sports and winning all the time, when the
reality is that were statistically underrepresented. He went on to argue
that trans people can participate and win in sports if the rules allow
them to play.

Backlash Against Trans Participation in Womens Sports

Despite Killips defense, his wins in womens sports have sparked
controversy and criticism. In one race, Killips won by an overwhelming
five-minute lead, fueling further debate.

During the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships in Knoxville last
weekend, several groups, including the Independent Womens Forum (IWF),
Independent Womens Network (IWN), and the Inga Thompson Foundation,
staged a protest. They rallied against the Union Cycliste Internationals
(UCI) and USA Cyclings rules, which allow male competitors in the womens
division.

Campaign to Protect Womens Sports
The protest event, titled Our Bodies, Our Sports: Keep Womens Cycling
Female, was aimed at preserving the integrity of womens sports and
protecting Title IX. Among those who spoke at the rally were Inga
Thompson, a three-time Olympic cyclist, and Riley Gaines, a former NCAA
swimming champion.

Thompson emphasized, Womens sports were created for women. Women fought
for years to have sex-separated sports. No amount of testosterone
suppression mitigates the advantages of being born male. Sports exist on
the premise of fairness. There is no fairness or equal opportunity in
sports for women if men with gender dysphoria are allowed to compete
against women.

Riley Gaines added, Theres no equity, fairness, sportsmanship, or
opportunity for women to succeed at an elite level without sex-based
categories. Thompson and Gaines are also endorsing the Keep Womens
Cycling Female petition, available at the Independent Womens Network
website.
