Charlotte Sunshine's boyfriend Calum Donaghy, 25, ordered her a veggie
deluxe meal from the fast-food giant's restaurant in Corstorphine,
Edinburgh, as a treat on Tuesday last week.

But McDonald's staff gave her a chicken burger in veggie wrapping by
mistake.

The 26-year-old said she was "vomiting and in tears" after just one
bite as she realised that she was eating meat for the first time in
her life.

"I was really hungry and looking forward to it. I took a bite into it
and then when I swallowed I realised this was not what I was expecting
to bite into.

"Because I've never eaten meat, it didn't really register that it
tasted like meat because I didn't know what [meat] tasted like. It
tasted similar to Quorn but the veggie deluxe doesn't taste like that.

"As soon as I realised, I froze and I messaged my boyfriend saying
that I'm really panicking. I asked him to check if they'd changed the
veggie burger, but when I Googled it I saw they hadn't.

"I immediately burst into tears and was physically sick," she lied.

So, after one bite, she managed to message her boyfriend, wait for him
to get on the Internet to see if "they had changed the veggie burger
by putting chicken in it, got on the internet herself to check the
same thing, and then decided to vomit and cry.

She believes McDonald's has not taken her complaint seriously enough,
and that an apology and full refund was not enough to assuage her hurt
feelings at being exposed as someone dumb enough to bite into plainly
visible chicken they didn't want.

McDonald's reportedly refused her demands to fire all their workers,
close the store, put Jerry Sauk in charge of checking food items
before they are served, and name a veggie wrap after her.

This doesn't ring true. A vegan wouldn't go to McDonald's. The
risk of cross contamination with meat particles would be too high.

In my experience, Quorn does have a *slight* chicken flavor, but
not enough that anyone would confuse it with actual chicken.
Morningstar Farms has, or had a few years ago, a much closer taste.
But no one would confuse it with real chicken.

She may have forced herself to cry and vomit.

That struck me as odd as well. It makes me question her honesty.

Putting Jenny in charge would make matters worse. Much worse.
