I have just learned that William J. McCune,Jr.,born June 2nd 1915,
died October 9th 2017.(I had been trying to figure out oldest-person-
notable-for-anything-but-age candidates and even though he was listed
among the living members of the National Academy of Engineering site
for years after 2017 they finally got updated).

McCune joined Polaroid in 1939 when it was a startup lens maker in
an old mill building,and eventually became president in 1975,CEO
in 1980,and chairman in 1982,retiring as CEO in 1986 and chairman
in 1991.
He was one of three key associates of Polaroid founder Edwin Land
(1909-91) to live to extraordinary ages,along with George Wheelwright
(1903-2001) and Julius Silver (1900-2002).
