I work under Kubuntu.
I have a USB drive that U se as backup and somehow I
set it up so that it is root who has all permissions.
So I have to precede every copy command with sudo, etc.
I take it I have to into root in order to give me, the
user, these permissions, but how do I do that?
When I do a right click for Properties and go into
advanced Permissions, I get a faded screen, and nothing
works, no doubt because I'm not root.

Thanks, but I have no problem mounting the stick. After I
have, I then have to precede every data transfer by "sudo",
which is pain in the neck. This, as I wrote, is no doubt
due to root having all permissions, and only root.

I guess you didn't read the "without-root-access" part.
