The xchar wordset test patterns F.21 in
https://forth-standard.org/standard/testsuite

cover only XC!+ and XC-SIZE :-(

Does anybody know of a more elaborated test suite for all the other
standard words of the wordset?
Preferrrably with non-Western but still UTF-8 encoded xchars and xstrings?

Note that the Xchar wordset does not require the use of UTF-8
encoding, and indeed Gforth also supports 8-bit encodings (e.g., the
ISO-8859 character sets).

Thanks for the hint. But ISO-8859 is no longer maintained since it "moved"
to Unicode, and UTF-8 has become the world de-facto standard by far.
ISO-8859 has become nearly extinct in the WWW.

In other words, a Forth 200x standard that is worth its modern penny
should better support UTF-8 well - and IMHO more system test cases
would be very welcome.

What kind of maintenance do you have in mind.

Not sure what you mean by that. Unicode subsumed the ISO-8859
character sets, but uses different code points for most of them, and
encodes them (or at least parts of them) differently.

Gforth certainly does. It also (alternatively) supports 8-bit
encodings such as the ISO-8859 character sets.

There is a test suite testing other words in
<http://forth200x.org/tests/xchar.fs> (coming from the original
proposal). I woder why it did not make it into the document.

I've never added xchar wordset tests to the test suite on Github as I
haven't implemented it on my system and have no interest in doing so. I
am happy to add the file (with appropriate attribution to the author) to
the test suite if permission is given by the copyright holder (is
permission needed?).

The author of the proposal and the tests is Bernd Paysan. I expect
that he is fine with you including them, but you can also ask him.
