Can you show us the code you've got to do the first part with `wdelete`?
Please paste the code inline in the message; this list strips
attachments such as screenshots. (And we can't copy/paste from a
screenshot anyway.)

And what's IDL? Can you provide a URL to it?

Off hand, given the references to plots, and netcdf & 2D
specifically...

So a nearly different domain of languages... I'd hope the OP is porting
IDL constructs (vector/array) to numpy/scipy.

But that also opens the question of what plotting package is being
used? Matplotlib or something else?
