Few minutes ago I looked at comp.lang.c through Eternal September server.
It's neither catastrophic nor good. I'd guess, with proper local spam
filter it would be acceptable. But for me at this stage of learning
setting up local filtering is still too advanced topic.

Well that's simple enough. If they block all googlegroups.com posts,
then the problem is solved. Check your provider, and see if
googlegroups.com posters are getting through or not.

What EternalSeptember.org is trying to do, is block only the
spam and still allow legit comp.lang.c posters, to post.
which is a lot tougher, considering the filter mechanism used.

We don't. news.i2pn2.org tries to filter spam, googlegroups is NOT
blocked. You will see some spam make it though now and then.

Yes, and he's doing a good job. We may have different ways of filtering,
but the goal is the same, filter as much spam as possible while trying
to avoid false positives.

This seems to be more than just spam. Now there are messages with only
Latin letters in subject and from fields. Apparently Russians or some
Moslem group is trying to overload and crash Google or even Internet.
Possible related to the damaged data cable between Estonia and Finland.
Other forms of attack may follow.

This is a relatively unsophisticated group.

I expect a telemarketer call center closed down, and
this group thought this would make them money. They're not
going to get paid, if they don't get results, and this
campaign simply isn't going to get results.

For E.-S., report those messages in
eternal-september.support. For 2pn2, report them in
alt.free.newsservers, with `2pn2' specified in the subject.
To identify a message, specify its Message-ID: header, which
your newsreader should be able to show you. In Sylpheed
(ancestor of Claws) you can view it in:
View -> All headers (Ctrl+H)
