Google, particularly the people in charge of Google Groups, don't read
this newsgroup. You've sent your complaint to people who want to
discuss the C programming language. We can't do anything about it.

Filters/killfiles can do a lot to make this group appear to be a lot
cleaner. Some Usenet servers, including news.eternal-september.org,
have been filtering out a lot of the recent spam.

If you want to discuss Usenet spam, post to news.admin.net-abuse.usenet.
Complaining about it in comp.lang.c is not useful and just adds to the
noise.

1. it also provides a clean text-only medium,
2. works with thousands of clients,
3. can be set up easily and free at freelists.org
4. can be moderated, or registrations can be moderated
5. can be accessed via a newsreader via Gmane

Just about everyone here has filtered all posts from people
posting from google. By doing that, we do not see the spam
and we do not see posts from people using google groups.

news.eternal-september.org . He tied Spam Assassin in to the new server
and has been teaching it what is spam.

He has been talking a little bit about it at the newsgroup

The strange thing: This flood of spam was stopped in comp.lang.c++. Spam messages were even DELETED from the group.

I'm not sure which is the most appropriate group to discuss the
technicalities but news.groups seems like a reasonable start. See also
<ug39u8$13bkh$1@dont-email.me> for some related information about the
revival of a different moderated newsgroup. For technical information , one
might even try contacting through email the moderators of other moderated
groups like comp.compilers and uk.legal.moderated to ask what software
they use. The latter in particular has a neat feature where there is a web
page associated with the group where you see a list of submitted posts as
well as their status i.e. waiting for approval , rejected , etc. Another
good thing is that , if your submitted post has a Message-ID , then this
gets preserved in the message appearing on the group whereas with
comp.compilers for example , it gets replaced by an automatically generated
one. Having your own Message-ID being preserved helps with one's own
"book keeping" tasks.

Having said all that , there wasn't much enthusiasm for reviving
comp.lang.c.moderated back in 2018 and the regulars on comp.lang.c remain
more or less the same (with the welcome exception of the Rick C. Hodgin
part time spammer). Personally I think comp.lang.c is doing fine. Even
if a functioning comp.lang.c.moderated existed now , I expect you'd still
get all the discussions on what's to be done about all the spam on
comp.lang.c .
