Why do you believe that, whilst you can change your filters, ES can't change
theirs?

You are correct, it seems they now have.
For a moment I saw a lot of spam on their server.

Just for the record, SpamAssassin was added to the server,
after a testing phase. This activity predates the uptick
in CLC spam.

This was originally implemented inside the server instance.
The result (side-effect), is spam headers would show up in
your feed, yet if you clicked on them, there were no bodies
and the "article had expired". The server would clean these up,
using a batch operation, maybe once a day. But... the damage
is done, in terms of defacing your news client. Perhaps after
your client does a "compact", the expired headers will be
removed from in front of your eyeballs. Technically, this
was "spam removal" (you couldn't read the bodies), but the
headers made a mess and people would continue to call that
spam.

A recent change to the E-S architecture, added an additional
server. A transit server equipped with the spam filter, does
the usual thing. The transit server then passes the clean
stream (with spam headers removed) to the real E-S server.
The purpose of the dual server arch, is to avoid defacing
your news client pane, with expired headers.

The result of this today, is the expired headers are no longer
pulled into the client. The visual appearance should be improved.

If there are problems, report them to eternal-september.support .
That group is on more than one server, but it is not on all
servers. For example, it used to be on AIOE, before AIOE was
knocked out of action. You do not need an account on E-S, to
submit a report to that particular group. If your server does not
have eternal-september.support, you can connect to E-S itself and the
support groups are made available, with authentication turned off.

But you need an E.-S. account to have something to complain
about, because otherwise you would complaining about spam
present on other servers!

The NOCEMS are a pooled effort of more than one Admin.
The E-S administrator, can tell whether his filter did it,
or one of the other filters did it, and can forward
a legit problem to one of the other admins. They are sharing
the cancels, to improve the individual servers.

Some servers will have their own filters that were in place
before this started. You would use their abuse address,
if something leaked through.

It shouldn't be up to users to guess what the problem
might be, related to filtering.

The problem with the other admins, is I don't know where
they hang out. You'd have to use their abuse address (email) to
get in touch with them. They sometimes show up in the above-named
group (eternal-september.support), in response to the spamming issue.

There are groups for USENET administration which may be a
place for a question, but complaints about spam are unlikely
to be welcome there (normally spam is not handled ad-hoc, one
complaint at a time, in a global forum). Especially as the
Google Admin would not be caught dead there. It's not like
you can get all the responsible parties in the room at the same time,
and get something done.

Apparently, the Google Gropers, are being greeted by a Captcha box,
as a meek attempt at controlling the flood. That means that
legit non-spamming GG users are now saddled with another box to tick.

I don't know about all groups, but in this particular group
(comp.lang.c) and in few others posting through Google Groups is
disabled. Period.
I tried to post in comp.arch.fpga where GG posting is still enabled
and indeed there was a captcha box. But it was too easy to click. May
be, it can help against script kiddies, but I don't believe that
this measure is sufficient to stop Low Tech spam that we are seeing
recently. As a matter of fact, right now there 10-30 spam messages per
hour seen via GG on comp.arch.fpga. That's not 500 spam messages per
hour that we had seen on comp.lang.c couple of weeks ago, but still
more than enough to make your typical group non-functional.
Fortunately, in case of comp.arch.fpga no impact done, because this
group was not really functional to start with.

You should be able to contact most admins at news.admin.net-abuse.usenet
I belive most read there regularly.

You can also check to see what NoCeM message lists the message-id here:
https://www.i2pn2.org/?page_id=272
Just paste the Message-ID, and it should list all the 'Issuers' of
NoCeMs that have listed the message as spam. Then you know who to contact.

I hesitate to use Ray's group for my own stuff as much as I can as it's
his group. You can let me know about incorrect listing in
rocksolid.nodes.help if you wish (for news.i2pn2.org)
