Supposedly like Debian, but without the unfree stuff and the firmware blobs. Sounds good to me, just wonder if it will work on your average hardware ?

How is that different from not putting non-free in your
/etc/apt/sources.list ?

Since it's based on Debian I assume it should work on most of what Debian works on.

Debian makes it pretty easy to not use non-free stuff, as mentioned above. Just remove non-free from your sources file.
