The planet really is a mess. I'm not one who thinks it can't recover but the more we abuse it the longer that can take.

You had me highly concerned that I might get hit by one of these things until I read the article and saw it's µm and not mm. That 7 1/2 inch piece of plastic flying at me sounds scary lol.

That 7 1/2 inch piece of plastic flying at me sounds scary lol.

Although I agree this sounds scary, the smaller particles might be worse for you as they can enter the body more easily, if small enough you can just breath them in.
If any animal would "learn" how to integrate these polymers into its body it might be a big evolutionary step for it.
