I have no idea but maybe fear. Physical fear of course but fear of things like not belonging to a group or fear of everyone disagreeing with you. I think politicians exploit this fear to encourage group think. Get enough people to think they should agree or disagree with something, then others are afraid to go against that.

If it counts as an emotion, I would say it is guiltyness ("a bad conscience"), in the western world at least
Why ? Because it is a central pillar of the dominant religion since a 1000 years or so.

humans are social animals, after all, and few can survive without their social group(s). so fear of exclusion from them should be deeply rooted in our brain, as it is endangers the individuals survival.
