Was anybody able to UPDATE under ./runplain.sh  without using the wrapper ever.  All java distributions comments welcome.

(if you are using your package manager's i2p then this may not work)

I2P can update itself without the wrapper at all.
Wrapper just makes it auto-restartable.

1. Get an i2pupdate.zip file
   Here's the 3 major ones:
  Vanilla: http://i2p-projekt.i2p/en/download#update-file
  Plus: http://skank.i2p/i2pupdate.zip
  Speed: http://i2speed.i2p/i2pupdate.zip
Then (adapted from http://i2p-projekt.i2p/en/download#update-file
2. Copy the file to your I2P installation directory
3. and rename as "i2pupdate.zip".
   You do NOT need to unzip the file.
4. "Shutdown", wait until full closure, then "./runplain.sh"
5. "ps ax | grep java" until i2p finishes update and closes down, again. Relaunch it.
6. There should be a log of "Updated router" in http://127.0.0.1:7657/events
   Also check version number to see if it incremented.

For installation directory if you didn't change it: (taken from I2P+'s faq)
Linux:
  Standard Java Installation: ~/.i2p/
  Package/repository installation: /var/lib/i2p/i2p-config/

It isn't about runplain.sh. I can tell you that.

Did you restart (shutdown-then-start) after downloading "this" update?
("Uptime 42 hours" assuming "2022/01/06 ~10:20" aka last log time as log snapshot time)
And is it a dev update? - 1.6.1+ is the latest currently.
You can "wget" the update file manually too (what i explained previously)

Here's some random advice:
Firewalled+Accepting tunnel requests makes building tunnels problematic.
Since peers cannot reach you at your announced IP:port,
they tell each other that you are down, rendering you an unused peer, an untrusted one.
(no joke i had to wait for an hour to get the main tunnel to build up)
And watchdog barks daily as it seems in the logs.

Either poke a hole in your firewall (for the port in http://127.0.0.1:7657/confignet#udpconfig
ask your ISP for a static IP address (search it if you didn't understand),
or switch to HiddenMode to sacrifice others tunnel-creations for your tunnel-creations.
