He's got a 'nice guy' reputation but he's never done well in The Principality before (desperation
can drive a man to do desperate things) and you have to have a bit of a ruthless streak to do well
with Ferrari.

He didn't just kiss that armco he hit it with a good third of his front wheel. It's often the case
that someone who has got very good at just /missing/ something by millimetres will overdo it when
trying to just /hit/ something by the same margin. He's very lucky that it didn't cost him a
gearbox change and 5 grid positions.

Not quite. Bottas was upset and speculated (within Leclerc's hearing according to him). Max was
quite sanguine as he only cares about getting more points than Hamilton.

The chances of it going wrong (as it appears to have) were just too high.

Leclerc comes over as a charming chap when interviewed but is certainly not
a ‘nice guy’ on the track - remember the 2019 Italian GP when he pushed
Hamilton off and would probably have been penalised had the stewards not
been unwilling to risk a riot by the Tifosi.

Having said that, I think it highly unlikely that this incident was
deliberate - far too risky (as turned out to be the case).

Hamilton was alongside and Leclerc didn't leave the car's width the
rules required him to leave.

Yes, I meant his off-track image. I know that he's often ruthless in the races.

Given the consequences, it doesn't sound deliberate, but then maybe he
just isn't as good at cheating as Schumacher was :)

Sorry, but there is just NO WAY he chose to deliberately hit that
barrier. The margin for error between damaging the car enough to bring
out a yellow, and having a crash that gives you at least a grid drop
penalty (or prevents you from starting the race at all) is just too small.
