Melbourne is in 7-day lockdown after outbreak of B1617 SARS-CoV-2.
So I can't see chance now that they will give any special treatment for quarantine. It also seems unlikely that enough Aussies will be vaccinated by then to allow free travel.

A lot may change in six months though.

Yeah, that was my first thought. Is there some sort of hold up with the vaccines in Australia?

Assorted supply issues. Lack of a sense of urgency (due to isolation,
and the relative success of lockdowns and quarantines) may also have
been a factor. Here's one summary:

There are still a lot of people in Aus who don't intend to get the vaccine, one study I read the
other day (but can't find now sorry) said it was over 30%. Part of the problem is they only had the
AstraZeneca vaccine available and there's lots of bad press about that on teh interwebz (read:
Facebook).

The good news is this latest lockdown has prompted more Victorians to get a vaccine with 21,000
administered yesterday.

The Aus government has dropped the eligibility age to 40 recently as it seems that younger people
are the main spreaders. The 40 - 49 age group can get the Pfizer vaccine now but need to make an
appointment for it while walk-ins can get the AstraZeneca jab.

My mother lives 4 hours outside Melbourne in rural Victoria and got her first (AZ) jab at the start
of this month. She's not due for her second dose for another month+.

That BBC link is more than a month old, current Aus info can be found by following links from
<https://www.abc.net.au/news/australia/>

This is interesting:

The international border early closure was the key to our success and the quarantine has been well run in most states except the one that Melbourne is in, Victoria. Our current useless state Govt managed to kill over 800 people and when quizzed at an inquiry about the stuff-up they "could not recall" anything. Hence the state Govt lockdown the entire state at the drop of a hat although the outbreak is limited to just three suburbs. This is the fourth statewide lockdown, one them was over a single case, as ridiculous as that seems. The state Govt also claimed they had "Gold Standard" contact tracing but they've managed to totally stuff that up too, the errors are mind blowingly stupid.

As for the vaccine the only supply issue we had was when Europe pinched a few million doses of the AstraZenica off a plane bound for Oz. Then there was the 'blood clot' issues which were over blown by media drumming up fear, that slowed things down due to hesitance to get the AZ vaccine which is the one we had the most of at the time. Also like in the EU, the AZ is not the 'preferred' vaccine for under 50's. Also States blaming the Feds is a common excuse for failures. However the pace of the roll-out of the vaccine has been picking up and Victoria is catching up to NSW and about 10% of the population has had at least one jab. Mostly the older population which was given priority.
Many younger folk are waiting until they can access the Pfizer vaccine, some because of the 'blood clot' issue, others because it's simply more effective. Knowing the way these sort of things pick up momentum I'd guess we'll get to say something like 70% this year.

Will that help the GP? I doubt it. Once this state Govt digs it's heels in they refuse to budge and they are enjoying their emergency powers with no parliamentary oversight. We had a funeral for an 8yo boy in a small country town with no cases anywhere near it (the nearest case was 250KM away) but the callous Govt heartlessly refused to give them an exemption for the funeral on "medical grounds".

If this state Govt decide everyone must be quarantined and I think they will, it sadly won't happen. Hopefully Liberty has a reserve location to fill the gap. And hopefully Victoria gets a better opposition that can get rid of these hopeless hipsters in power before the state goes broke.

As for surveys about hesitancy, it depends on what the questions were, media outlets looking to push a barrow know how to get the answers they want for their headline. Independent surveys show that as many as 15% are hesitant, 70% are happy to be vaccinated.

And did you know that people who've been vaccinated can't donate plasma ? Incredibly a few foil hatters believe it even if the Red Cross have publicly debunked that rubbish. Mind you governments talking about vaccine passports to cross state borders is insanity on a whole new level but don't get me started on that one.

>
>

>
