I think this is a non-issue for competition.

If every teams' pitstops get slowed down by... ...any amount. It has no
effect at all on the actual racing or on its outcome.

All it does is reduce the risk of a car being released with wheel that's
not attached properly.

So... ...where is the harm?

Where is the 'competition', where is the 'spectacle', where is the
'pressure', which due to F1's ever-evolving shyte tyre rules, will soon
mandate dumbed-down pit stops, the speed of which has been a long
sought-after and well-practiced element of race craft and strategy?

You really think all of F1, every team, every stop, should be slowed
down when so few improper releases actually occur?

If FIA is worried about slap-dash F1 pit work -- hardly in evidence --
they should just stop the races at prescribed intervals to mandate shyte
tyre changes.

You think the "spectacle" of an F1 race hinges on pit stop times?

Interesting.

They can all do the pit stops in very close to the same time, so they
just aren't much of a competitive factor.

Again, I'll watch F1 either way, but adding the requirement of running
two different tire compounds at least creates an opportunity for varying
race strategies.

Sorry, but how is that true.

This rule change will slow down tire changes for everyone by a very
small amount—tenths of a second, so it's hardly going to change the
balance of whether an additional tire stop is a good or bad idea.

Not really, no.

I get WHY the FIA has mandated them. It's to (hopefully) introduce
another variable (hopefully to add some interest into races which far
too often are just parades).

But the racing for me is what drivers do...

....with the car...

....on the actual race track...

....against other drivers.
