"a kindergarten cesspool"

Cross-posted to mac/iPhone/iPad newsgroups, but equally relevant here.

See anything familiar in this summary by a disgusted participant?

"In summary, when the dozen apologists below are _not_ on a Usenet
newsgroup thread, the conversation is purposefully helpful and
informative for all.

--
Alan Baker, Alan Browne, Chris, Haemactylus, Joerg Lorenz, Jolly Roger,
Lewis, nospam, Rod Speed, Savageduck, Wade Garrett, Wolffan, Your Name,
et al.

Apologists alone are why Apple newssgroups are a kindergarten cesspool."

'The drawback is that for the first 40 minutes of the session, most of
the top drivers and teams would stay in the garage, waiting for the
likes of Minardi to trundle around, clean up the racing line and lay
some rubber down. Occasionally the top teams would get caught out if
there were some drops of rain, though, and we’d get a properly jumbled
order – always a good thing!'

Not in my experience with working ten F1 events during the period that
qualifying format was in use -- USGP Watkins Glen (4), USGP Long Beach
(3), USGP Dallas, Canadian GP Mosport and Montreal (3) -- but let your
sample of one Google cite suffice, you feckless pedant and poseur.

And even if so, your basic math skills suck. What is 60 less 40? Twice?

Got any proof of what you claim? No?

Shocking.

Still not a lot for the paying customers...

....and I've watched most F1 races for the last 30 years, and I know that
when they had the opportunity, the best teams just weren't on track more
than a bare minimum of laps.

Why would the SCCA have records of how long F1 cars were on track, Gutless?

I thought it would be obvious that I'm not saying you weren't there...

....but I didn't allow for how the obvious escapes you...

....like it escapes you that after a few free practice sessions, drivers
of the caliber of F1 pilots only need a lap or two to achieve their best
time.

Right, because in an era before realtime telemetry and weather
forecasting, track conditions never changed, competitors didn't improve
and better their times, tire selection, running pressures, and chassis
setups weren't options. 'F1 pilots' never improved, asymptotically,
beyond a point. So two hours of qualifying over Friday and Saturday were
a flat-out waste. Nobody except everybody used them to the fullest.

Extrapolating, even back then, this board's most famous wace dwiber and
self-styled smartest, best 'pilot' on the grid, would bank one and done.

The rest? All pedestrians. Get out the blue flags. Retire them.

And FUCK OFF, you FECKLESS PEDANT, DULLARD, and obvious POSEUR.

So go ahead.

Two session qualifying was used in 2005. You think 16 years ago F1
didn't have realtime telemetry or weather forecasting?

'Tyrell led the way in 1978 when it introduced a computer-driven
analysis of its cars’ performance data.

....

Two-way telemetry was readmitted for 2002, and McLaren used it to good
effect at Monaco to stop David Coulthard’s engine from smoking due to a
sticking valve in the oil system. A fix beamed out from the pits allowed
him to keep running all the way to victory. For 2003, though,
pits-to-car telemetry was banned again.'

Keep digging, Gutless!

Nope. The fact is that the current system was brought in specifically
BECAUSE under previous formats the track would be empty for most of
qualifying.

'Although of course this is F1, and typically many of the leading teams
would wait until the final moments of the session to set their times,
leaving the smaller teams to clean the racing line but soak up the extra
(and much-needed) TV time.'

Me? Hell no. I use every minute of every qualifying session...

....because I am NOT NEAR the best, gutless.

But the F1 drivers ARE.

Two qualifying sessions, Friday (except Monaco) and Saturday, were used
before the 1996 season, ya fucking know-nothing.
