The shamefully inept play by England in this 50 over WC is an example of the loss of technique and mentality, especially in mentality. This is unsurprising because the 50 over game is the closest in form to red ball cricket and consequently is infected with the loss of technique and mentality.

The snag with this theory is that I very much doubt if the players from
most of the other participating countries play any more 50-over cricket
than the English players do. And the players from India and NZ, in
particular, seem to have coped just fine.

That is not my point. The more any form of "Bazball" is played the more traditional techniques and mentality will be reduced RH

No harm to Buttler, but as far as being captain he's about as bright
as a damp match in a wet cave.
This 'technique and mentality' nonsense is simply blaming the
environment for the inadequacies of the players.

The players follow the captain, he sets the bar. The effect of the
captain and his relationship with the coach on the entire team and
staff can't be underestimated.
It's time for a big England reset. I think all the same that things
will continue until the hands have finished shaking and the relevant
nods and winks have taken place. It's all a bit like the problems in
Irish cricket.
