The Braves played a doubleheader the day before and actually scored 1 run each game. Against the Mets, they also scored 1 run in the second game of the doubleheader. Any major league pitcher could shut down the braves. Of their 4 games over the last 2 days they actually scored their most runs in the game DeGrom started.

And why did he pitch only 5 innings? They wear #41 on their sleeves in honor of Tom Seaver, correct? Do you think Seaver would have allowed them to pinch hit for him after 5 shutout innings with the lead? Hell, with these new 7 inning doubleheaders, he probably would have been ready to start and pitch a few innings to start the second game.

Are you fuckin serious? I'd even say the most jealous yankee fans would grudgingly admit he is having one of the best seasons EVER and the stats PROVE he is, and everyone who ever watched the game KNOWS. Micheal Kay sure as hell knows. I guess you believe the election was rigged too?. He only pitched 5 innings because he has been having various issues and hes a smart guy who doesnt hide it and ruin his season. Consider it that new term "Load Management". And this year with the Mets bullpen it doesnt matter when he comes out, we sure couldnt say that the last few years....

Relief pitchers back in the day used to go more than 1 inning too, i dont think that takes away from what Mariano Rivera did tho just because i'm a Mets fan......shit the 5 man rotation started when? The 80's? It was 4 man before that but that doesnt take away what every starting pitcher did after that....its the way the game has evolved. Now you actually see "bullpen games" when a team is shorthanded. I look at it this way, save the bullets for october, after all if your pitchers go down you are not makin it to october anyway. A strong bullpen is essential these days, not just a closer....

Also when comparing athletes of different eras, what you do is compare them to their CONTEMPORARIES....Thats what makes what Babe Ruth did great, Wayne Gretzky. Joe Montanas stats wouldnt compare with the 25th rated QB these days, that doesnt make Gardner Minshew better than Joe Montana....and thats exactly what you do with Jacob Degrom and barring injury thats what will make Jake one of the best pitchers.....EVER.

Since your point is comparing contemporaries to contemporaries, could you tell me what other present #1 starter on a major league team only pitches 5 innings every game?

A lot cant even get that far because they suck and get knocked out. His starts have been shortened because injury and playing it safe (3 different problems, one stint on IL), not because "he needs a vacation" like basketball players. Obviously you havent been watching Jakes post game and how much he hates coming out, not only is he one of the best pitchers ever in MLB history he is also a class act. And when all is said and done he will be in the argument as best pitcher....EVER..and jealous Yankee fan cant change that.
