“Human error” seems a reasonable finding in the circumstances but it in no
way absolves Masi from blame, especially when taking account of various
other questionable decisions during the season, and he has rightly lost his
job. I can’t help wondering whether Charlie Whiting would have allowed the
same situation to develop.

The irony is that had the race been red flagged, thus negating Hamilton’s
advantage, and been restarted and had Verstappen gone on to win everybody
would have said that it was tough on Lewis but “that’s motor racing!”. As
it is Max’s first championship will forever be devalued in the eyes of many
fans.

Having said all that it is clearly time to move on. Max is the champion
whether we like it or not, as Toto and Lewis have long since accepted.
