First off, 18 playoff teams in NFL history
[only if the graphic is accurate & the Cow-
boys large star didn't cover up other play-
off team(s)] had more penalty yardage
than the Cowboys have had thus far in ...

.... 2021 & at least 14 playoff teams have
had more penalties than the Cowboys thus
far in 2021.

Second off, the defending champ playoff
bound Bucs have a higher penalty yards
in 2021 than the Cowboys (along with the
most penalty yards being by the 49ers).

Third, this is the first 17 game season, so
if one is impressed with totals records, *all*
NFL single season totals records not based
on percentages or per game stats are sus-
ceptible to being overtaken this year due to
the additional game.

In my opinion, *all* statistics including every
statistic at all statistical websites should be
presented in "per game" format. Since all web-
sites I'm aware of *don't do that* presently, I
have to go through tedious time-consuming
mathematical calculations to present my ...

.... weekly statistical analysis of Cowboys ver-
sus the opponent for the following stats:

o Sacks Allowed per game
o Passing TDs per game
o Rushing TDs per Game
o 1st Downs per game
o Net Turnover Differential per game
o Giveaways per game
o Takeaways per game
o 20+ yard rushing plays per game
o 20+ yard passing plays per game
o Penalty Yards per Game

I don't keep track of total penalties as an
offsides or any other 5 yard penalty is far
less consequential than are large yardage
penalties, (the exception being when they
result in a 1st down), the largest typically
for defensive pass interference.

Perhaps some website tracks penalties
in far greater details than I've found as of
now.

Surprisingly, the results in 2021 do not
demonstrate a relationship between
more penalties / penalty yardage and
losing in 6 of the 8 games the Cowboys
have played thus far in 2021.

In the 2 Cowboys losses in 2021, they
had the same penalties versus the Bron-
cos & 1 less in penalty yards, with their
worst loss. In the close game vs the
Bucs, they had fewer penalties & far
less penalty yards, with a close loss.

In their 6 wins, they had fewer penalties
& lower penalty yards in their first 2 wins,
but had higher penalties & higher penalty
yards in their last 4 wins.

So, the relationship between penalties,
penalty yards, & winning or losing is far
more ambiguous than the original post
in this thread (see below) might lead one
to believe.

Coach McCarthy expressed a concern that
he may have over-focused on reducing pen-
alities in the week leading up to the Broncos
game, & being that they had their worst per-
formance of the year, & in their last 4 games
their having more penalties & penalty yards ...

.... did not prevent them from winning, & be-
ing that one of the most penalized teams in
2021 is the defending champ 6-2 Bucs, per-
haps the old saying "less is more" does not
apply to penalties / penalty yards in many
(most?) games.
