slot corner Jourdan Lewis on the COVID-19
list Friday afternoon, offering them little time
to get their ducks in a row ...

.... rookie Kelvin Joseph was in line to make
his first career start after playing exclusively
on special teams this year. ... he played ex-
tremely well, & offered yet another positive
endorsement of this rookie class.

Micah Parsons, LB

Micah Parsons continues to prove just how
good he is each week. He had another such
performance, finishing with 3 tackles, a sack,
& 2 hits on the quarterback. Parsons also dem-
onstrated his continually improving skills in cov-
erage on a few opportunities.

Osa Odighizuwa & Chauncey Golston, also had
good games, Osa with a tackle & QB hit & Chaun-
cey with 2 tackles, half a sack, a QB hit, & scoring
a TD after Corey Clement blocked a punt]

Jones said in a Friday visit with 105.3 The Fan.
"He is doing some really good things. He's really
going to be a big help for us this year, on a time-
line he's going to really help us out. He's jumped
out."

Consider those words to be the official beginning
of a job competition between tough guy Brown &
new kid Joseph ...

Round 1, Pick 12 – Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State

As the Cowboys’ first-round selection, linebacker
Micah Parsons will get plenty of opportunities to
impact the defense with his play from day one. &
he’ll find his way to the field & plenty of snaps re-
gardless of who else is on the depth chart.

What’s scary is the fact Parsons has only played
linebacker for two seasons and was already con-
sidered the top player at his position in this draft
class. Fans should be excited to watch his growth
week after week as a rookie.

Round 2, Pick 44 – Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky

The obvious expectation for cornerback Kelvin
Joseph is to start opposite Trevon Diggs in Week
One. But rookie corners are notorious for needing
extra time to get accustomed to the speed and
mental aspects of the NFL. So fans shouldn’t be
shocked if Joseph begins his time in Dallas in a ...

.... reserve role behind veterans like Anthony Brown,
Jourdan Lewis, or potentially a free agent yet to be
signed.

Round 3, Pick 75 – Osa Odighizuwa, IDL, UCLA

Odighizuwa will need to find a way to separate him-
self from the other young, highly draft defensive tac-
kles on the roster this summer in Trysten Hill and
Gallimore, who might both be on notice.

[both Trysten & Gallimore have had to overcome
injuries & Trysten has missed playing time recently
with Covid]

But expect the rookie third-rounder to earn a spot in
the rotation as a three-technique defensive tackle in
the Cowboys’ nickel four-man front and at defensive
end in Dan Quinn’s base 3-4. Odighizuwa would seem-
ingly fill the void left by the versatile Tyrone Crawford
who retired this offseason.

Round 3, Pick 84 – Chauncey Golston, Edge, Iowa

Golston figures to slot behind more experienced de-
fensive ends as a rookie but will still earn himself a
role in the rotation at both defensive ends spots and
potential inside at defensive tackle in four-man fronts.

Quinn may favor his 34 3/4-inch wingspan early, so
he’s someone who could earn significant playing time
in year one.
