I don't think anyone expected him to be suspended.....first off, and lucky for him since punching a helmet isnt a smart thing, he missed with the punch.

Will he have to miss the first half of this week's game? I heard that an ejection is for a full game so it would carry over to the next game.

I never heard of such a thing. In any league. I've seen teams not start a player or hold them out for awhile for diciplinary reasons, but that has nothing to do with league rules. And even that is pretty much passe' now. And it should be because in a sense that is punishing the whole team, assuming said player is any good.
