(another correction)

(the team winning the toss scoring a
TD, the other team getting no chance,
begs the question, should the other
team get a chance?

I know, the game has to end some-
time, but oh well, the coin toss in this
game may have been the game decider
with both teams' defenses unable to
stop the other team)
https://www.espn.com/nfl/playbyplay/_/gameId/401326633

Yet another exciting close game, the
Bills coming back to score a dramatic
come-from-behind TD with 1:54 left
in the game, then making the 2 point
conversion to go ahead 29-26.

The Chiefs then answered topped off
with a 64 yard TD to Tyreek Hill with 1:02
left, going ahead 33-29.

The Bills final drive, 75 yards topped off
with a 19 yard TD pass to Gabriel Davis
with 13 seconds left.

Last gasp drive by the Chiefs from their
25 yard line, 19 yard pass to 44 yard line
with 8 seconds left, Chiefs timeout. 25
yard pass to Kelce, timeout with 3 sec-
onds left. 49 yard field goal try, kick is
good, game goes into overtime.

Chiefs win toss, get the ball first. Chiefs
drove down the field 75 yards topped off
with an 8 yard pass to Kelce for the win,
42-36, the only Home win in this year's
Divisional playoffs.

AFC Conference Championship game
will be Bengals @ Kansas City next week.

~~~
Ex-Cowboys Cole Beasley, playing with the
Cowboys 2012 to 2018, participated in the
game, catching 6 for 60 yards. He has played
for the Bills 2019 to 2021, with 82 catches
in each of the last 2 years.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BeasCo00.htm
Trevon Digg's older brother Stefon had 3
catches for 7 yards.
Last 13 Years Divisional Playoffs
Home Teams versus Visiting Teams
Until 2019, the top 2 teams in each
Conference got 1st round byes &
Home field in the Divisional playoff.
In 2020 & 2021, only 2 teams got 1st
round byes, the other 2 being the high-
est Wild Card Winner Seed getting the
Home field.
In 2020, 2 #2 seeds got the Divisional
playoff Home game, the Saints & Bills,
the Bills winning & the Saints losing.
In 2021, 2 #2 seeds got the Divisional
playoff Home game, the Bucs & Chiefs,
the Bucs losing & the Chiefs winning.
2022 is the 2nd time that 3 Visiting
teams won 75% of the Divisional play-
off games in the 52 games played in
the last 13 years (previous time was
2010),
Home teams winning 36 (69.23%),
Visiting teams winning 16 (30.77%)
11 playoff games have gone into overtime
since current rules instituted in 2010.
10 of 11 (90.9%) won by team that won the
overtime coin toss - 7 of 10 (70%) of those
won their initial drive with the opponent not
having any chance on offense.
---
The Chiefs benefitted from that 2010 over-
time rule this time, but at the end of the 2018
season, they were among the 70% that lose
without having any chance on offense sim-
ply due to losing the overtime coin toss, as
documented on Jan 20 2019 at
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/01/nfl-overtime-rules-stink
Patriots vs. Chiefs showed us (again)
NFL overtime rules are terrible
That alone should tell the NFL that its overtime
rules are fundamentally flawed. It was overtime
in Patriots-Chiefs, the AFC Championship game,
after one of the most thrilling fourth quarters I
can remember in an NFL playoff game.
The nation was watching. The Patriots won the
toss, drove the ball down the field — they do have
the best quarterback of all time, which helps —
and scored.
Then it ended. That was it. Patrick Mahomes,
who’d gone toe-to-toe with the greatest coach
and greatest QB of all time, didn’t get to touch
the football. His team lost the toss, his defense
gave up a touchdown, and that was it.
For a casual fan, it felt like being cheated. Even
for a Patriots fan — which, yes, I grew up in New
England — it felt like being cheated. We wanted
more football.
.... I understand why wanting to limit the length of
a game would be a good idea for the regular sea-
son. ...
But for the playoffs, you can’t end a game without
letting both offenses touch the ball. It feels funda-
mentally unfair, not just to both teams, which sure,
but to the fans watching as well. We deserved to
see more of this game.
To the people who argue The Chiefs defense should
have stopped the Patriots offense from scoring. Sure.
Every defense should stop every offense from scoring
every time. Sometimes that doesn’t happen. ...
Article posted Jan 24 2022:
https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/08/sport/football-overtime-rules-college-vs-nfl/index.html
Bills vs. Chiefs proves once again that
NFL overtime rules aren't as fair as college
Millions of Americans tuned into one of the most
epic NFL playoff games of all time Sunday. Buffalo
Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Kansas City Chiefs
quarterback Patrick Mahomes each led amazing last-
second drives before a field goal forced the game into
overtime.
Once there, however, only Mahomes got to control the
ball. Why? His team won the coin toss, received the
ball and scored a touchdown. That meant the end of
the game, and the end of Buffalo's season.
Is that fair? A lot of fans believe that both teams should
get the ball at least once in overtime like in college foot-
ball.
.... Although the sample size is just 11 games, the team
that has gotten the ball first in overtime since 2011 has
won 10 times -- a small sample size but a pretty big sta-
tistical departure.
Just ask any Atlanta Falcons fan about Super Bowl LI in
2017, when the New England Patriots won in overtime
without the Falcons offense ever taking the field.
The Patriots did the same thing to the Chiefs two years
later in the AFC Championship game. Now, the Chiefs
have done it to the Bills.
There's a reason many Falcons fans cried foul after that
Super Bowl. Today, many Bills fans know the pain.
