Jerry's got to say that even if they have 100% decided not to keep
Cooper. Who would trade anything meaningful for Cooper if it was sure
that he would be released?

Someone on ESPN said that the Cowboys have 6 offensive players who count
in excess of $15M each toward the cap, and no other team has more than 4.

Most of those numbers are meaningless, as was the 6 @ $15M+ thing I
wrote and you quoted. I just found it to be curious. No one reporting
cap stuff ever does the work to provide useful analysis. The best I
can hope for is amusing curiosities.

A slightly meaningful approach is to look at average annual salary.
If you go to
https://overthecap.com/contracts/
and set the slider minimum to about $15M/year and sort by team,
the Rams appear to be the most top-heavy, then the Chiefs, and then the
Bucs [assuming Brady does not count].

Presumably Cooper and Lawrence will be gone, leaving Dallas with only 2 such players.

Demarcus Lawrence isn't responsible personally, but the Cowboys have
finagled the system using his contract. There is $19M of deferred salary
cap attributable to his contract coming due as cap hits after they cut
him. IMO they should absorb it all this year, but nobody seems to be
willing to take pain now in a futile year to improve super bowl chances
in future years. If they wait 3 months to cut him, $8M cap hit this year
and $11M next year. However if they try to do that, he temporarily
counts as $27M for this year in the interim, which might make balancing
other contracts problematic while they wait.

As for Amari Cooper, per the following analysis
by Jane Slater, the Cowboys are likely to trade
Amari Cooper prior to March 20 as the Cowboys
would have a salary cap hit of $20 million on

Unrealistic is a more diplomatic adjective than I would have used.

You don't trade for players, you trade for contracts.

Cooper was an enormous mistake. Take a look at

For what they gave up for Cooper plus the fifth they just got back,
they could have had AJ Brown *and* $42.5M to spend on other players.
They'd also have Brown this year on a rookie deal and the 5th-year
option available for next year.
