I read on Twitter that Telesco is in the last year of his contract and hasn’t gotten an extension yet. Wonder if they will actually blow things up and start over if they miss the playoffs again this year.

Yeah, he's 0 for 2 and looking like he's behind in the count on his third try. Very few GMs even get a third coaching hire, I'd be stunned if Telesco gets another bite at the apple unless they turn it around this year. Only way they'd lure a Sean Payton (not that I'd expect Dean to shell out for him) is by letting him handpick the GM he wants to work with.

"behind in the count on his third try" is a perfect way to put it. I
knew nothing about Staley when he was hired but was quickly pulled in by
his enthusiasm. However, things haven't worked out as planned, and I am
certainly beginning to wonder. I understand about all the injuries, but
the continuing breakdowns on defense are very concerning, as are the
blowouts at home. According to Popper's latest article, the Chargers
have allowed the second-highest number of "explosive plays" (using
whatever definition they use) on defense in the league. Staley is
supposed to be a defensive guru.
