May 7th will be Buster Posey Day, with the fans giving him a send off they never got to give him last year. Since it's during the season, you'll have to buy tickets. Either with a special package deal or single game tickets.

https://www.mlb.com/giants/news/giants-to-honor-buster-posey-may-7

The 22 in the package deal is Will Clark's number being retired. Opening Day and season ticket sales are now open. If you go for the deal, you're going to be playing for 22 (exciting) games, plus extras.

Don't be surprised when you find all the good seats blacked out in the seating chart. They're part of the 22 package for a much higher priced.

Well they're going to lose a number of games at this point, already
canceled the first two series and they're said to be far apart.

Owners want to force a 14-team playoff field while the players will only
go for 12. That's from 10 playoff teams now.

The other big thing is they're about $16 million apart in the luxury tax
threshold. Players want higher threshold, owners only want to increase
it by $10 million over the current $210 million line.

Baseball is going to keep losing fans at this rate. Only teams in
contention will have a lot of fan interest in a given season. So of
course adding 4 more playoffs teams will probably make more money for
the teams and owners.

They settled today, so the games will start in mid-April. I think the Oakland/SF series is canceled.

Yeah 12 teams now in playoffs so another WC and I heard the WC series
will be 3 games, not just one.

Giants signed a potential #1 starter to replace Gausman:

"The San Francisco Giants signed All-Star lefty Carlos Rodón to a
two-year, $44 million deal in what should hopefully be the first major
domino to fall in MLB free agency. The deal, according to Jeff Passan of
ESPN, includes an opt-out after the first season.

Rodón made the first All-Star Game of his career last season for the
Chicago White Sox after, unsurprisingly, having the best season of his
career in 2021. The then-28-year-old went 13-5 with an ERA of 2.37, a
WHIP of 0.957 and 185 strikeouts over 132.2 innings pitched. The
performance was good enough to not only earn an invite to the Midsummer
Classic, but also got him fifth in AL Cy Young voting. Oh, and he also
threw a no-hitter."

But the guy had arm soreness in the second half of the season so beware.

Now they're among the expected finalists for Suzuki, who has to decide
by end of the month.

Arm soreness and arm injuries. He'll be another one of Zaidi's reclamation
project, hopefully no flaming out after the All-Star break.

Well Giants have some cap space so that is one reason why they are
thought to be contenders for Suzuki.

I'm fine with Zaidi not going after the over $30 million a year players.
But at some point, reclamation players can only take you so far.

They did well last season, especially until around August. But the
playoffs showed they just didn't have a consistent enough offense or
pitching which could dominate playoffs teams.

So maybe expectations are higher, especially from ownership. Despite a
record-setting season, the team didn't reap as much benefits at the
ticket office or necessarily with merchandise sales. In large part due
to covid, which prevented full attendance until later in the season.

This season, they're expecting to draft on the success of last season,
sell a lot more tickets and merchandise, at least for a couple of months
while fans see if team can continue that success.

So owners may not be too happy if they relapse into a marginal playoffs
team or worse.

They have a lot of cap space, but they won't sign anyone from the
remaining pool of big name talent.

Minnesota signed Kevin Correa to a 3-year $103 million deal.

So the teams have money, even small market clubs.

The Giants are sitting on a pile of money, but it's hard to argue
with the signings they made and the stunning run they put
together last year. Bart has taken over at catcher, he's doing
okay and the pitching seems to have been upgraded the
pitching staff with Rodon, who struck out 12 in his first game
with the Giants. That kind of compensates for DeScalfani's
who couldn't make to the fourth inning in his game.

Hitting wise, they might not reach high levels in HR's, but they
have rookies who appear to be doing well. Of course there's
some of the usual injuries, with Wade, Longoria (again and again)
and LaStella.

Two okay series so far.

Runs are going to be scarce, especially in AT&T.

Let's see after about 20-30 games.

I think someone cited that the over/under for wins by Giants this year
is like 85 games. That's 22 fewer wins. Last year is probably not
replicable but if they get 85-95 wins, they should be solid for at
least WC.

And the WC games are going to be 5-game series now or something like
that? That will give the division winners a bigger advantage over the
teams which win the WC round, especially if those series go 4 or 5 games.

The old injury bug has reared it's ugly head, yet again. Belt, injure. Longoria
coming back for injury, Wade, injured again. Add to that the substandard
batting, Bart tanking AB again and the bullpen turning in a russian roulette
option. They're losing games they should have won and Doval, so exciting
last year, he's got something wrong with his pitching.

Well you knew they weren't going to hit as many HRs, especially all
those clutch HRs, again.

They weren't going to have the gaudy record in 1-2 run games or late
inning wins again.

The other Brandon is hitting like crap again.

Bart has been a resounding flop as the "everyday" catcher. It wasn't long
the Giants started moving him down the lineup, then they stashed at DH.
Nothing seemed to work. I posted a message about the Giants assigning
him to Sacramento.

He always did very well at the AAA level, but the big league game seems
to be too much for him. He also looks like he's not handling the pitchers
as well as Buster did. Maybe the game just overwhelms him.

Brandon Belt is back with the Giants, but they say he's still a few days
away from playing. Wade is another mystery as the Giants resorted to
using an injectable synthetic joint in his knee. That's a treatment
unrelated to his bone bruise problem.
