Andre Iguodala scanned Jordan Poole’s stats following the third-year guard’s recent 26-point outing.

“He likes those Klay stat lines,” Iguodala joked Nov. 5, pointing out that Poole had no free throws or rebounds — not to mention steals and blocks — and just one assist.

Not that there’s anything wrong with dropping buckets — it’s what has been asked of Poole in Klay Thompson’s absence, after all. A glance at Iguodala’s stat line that night, however — 10 assists, four rebounds, two steals and two points on four shots — shows 18 years of experience affecting the game in myriad ways.

Iguodala has expanded his game, serving varying roles with four different teams (the Warriors twice) — all while limiting opposing stat lines on defense, namely LeBron James in the 2015 NBA Finals.

In Philadelphia, as the ninth overall pick in 2004, Iguodala picked up the scoring load after Allen Iverson was traded to Denver in 2006. Iguodala’s points jumped from 12.3 to 18.2 that 2006-07 season, while averaging 5.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds. Following a career-high 19.9 points in 2007-08 and an NBA-high 39.9 minutes in 2008-09, Iguodala’s shot attempts began to drop as other parts of his game became focal points. Iguodala was named second-team NBA All-Defense in 2010-11, made his lone All-Star team in 2011-12 and, in 2013-14 — his first season with the Warriors — was named first-team All-Defense.

This season, the 6-foot-6 forward is nearly on pace to join Draymond Green as the only players in NBA history to, according to Elias Sports, average more rebounds and assists than points over a season (Iguodala averaged 4.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds entering Sunday). Green pulled off that feat last season, averaging 6.0 rebounds, 8.4 assists, 5.9 points.

Iguodala’s move to the Warriors’ bench in 2014-15 helped set the tone for a selfless run to three championships in five seasons. Poole likely will be asked to do the same when Thompson returns after two-plus seasons missed because of injury.

“We have to get him to the foul line,” Iguodala said of Poole’s next progression. “Not relying on having 26 with zero free throws.”
