https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/12/health/us-cancer-deaths-decline-wellness/index.html

.... The lifetime probability of being diagnosed
with any invasive cancer is estimated to be
40.9% for men & 39.1% for women in the US,
according to the new report.

Preventable risk factors to limit cancer:
Smoking, alcohol, high body mass index

[Smoking, it continually disappoints &
annoys me, the proclivity of so many in
the entertainment industry to show peo-
ple smoking, as if the entertainment indus-
try doesn't give a damn about promoting
cancer/death/smoking].

[As for alcohol, despite its dangers/risks,
its legal status for adults & continued
heavy promotion in ads, & its propensity
to be a readily available stress/depres-
sion reducer for many, 'tis why bans on
alcohol consumption were short-lived in
the U.S.]

[as for body mass index, a lot of that is
the result of most of the U.S. population
being influenced to consume unhealthy
food, an alarmingly large percentage of
it unhealthy, by the American food indus-
try, but unmentioned, the fact that there ...

.... are many benefits to avoiding thinness,
with overly thin health risks as high or
higher than overly heavy health risks; also,
it's highly debatable the extent of & ability
of those inclined to eat too much to cut
back, varying from individual to individual, ...

.... with much of human behavior hardwired
by genetic/memetic/epigenetic factors that
are largely unchangeable with current tech-
nology; another unmentioned factor, exer-
cise, the seduction of the couch/recliner/
computer/video games/entertainment ...

.... often being far more seductive than the
claims by exercise-enthusiasts that they
get pleasure from exercise (I simply state
that from my own personal experience that
the so-called hormonal rush that many ex-
ercisers report having, I've never had that).]

The report also includes projections for 2023,
estimating that there could be nearly 2 million
new cancer cases – the equivalent of about
5,000 cases a day – and more than 600,000
cancer deaths in the United States this year.

[unmentioned, the percent of those that are
totally unpreventable with current medical/
technological interventions]

.... the 5-year relative survival rate for all can-
cers combined has increased from 49% for
diagnoses in the mid-1970s to 68% for diag-
noses during 2012-18.

The cancer types that now have the highest
survival rates are thyroid at 98%, prostate at
97%, testis at 95% and melanoma at 94%,
according to the report.

Current survival rates are lowest for cancers
of the pancreas, at 12%.
