Unless Alonso has a strong desire to go someplace in particular, Cohen
is not going to let anyone outbid him for his services; barring a
serious 2024 injury.

I was listening to this idiot on the radio raving about this and I'm
think, "How many ways can you be childish and wrong and still remain on
the air" and I turned it off.

This guy is truly clue but lets go over some of them.

First of all, there is the insane idea that Alonso is worth more the
Mets than other clue. ***BLOINK*** not just wrong but stupid.
His value as a basbeall player will be largely the same regardless what
team he is on. HRs are HRs and Base Hits are Base Hit.

If he is talking about Jersey sales, forget it. This team just let
deGrom walk. Pete is popular but he is not Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden,
Mike PIaza popular. He's not even Rusty Staub popular, He's not even
David Wright popular... part of that is the sport itself. Babseball in
NYC is just not as popular as it was in 2000. It has really nose dived.
But some of it has to do with the team. The team flamed out 2 seaons
ago and the promising core never really made a strong run. Regardless,
you don't make basbeall decisions like this anyway.
5.9
Secondly, they over eastimate how good he is. People are crazy, Lindor
is a much better player. Alonso's OBP dive last season is truly
worrisome. He had that wicked car accident which might have set him
back. We will see, But FWIW his career WAR is 17+, about exactly what
John Olerud did in 2 seasons for the Mets. And Johnny O was a much
better player.

Alonso's OPS+ dropped to 122 last season and he has never been like a
170 OPS+ player, which is how it makes people sound. This idiot on the
raido with cursing Steve Cohen because Cohen chased Otani and Corea...
and your like... what the fuck is wrong with this idiot. With Alonso
anchoring 1st base the Mets had the 5th best 1st baseman play for the
position with the leadership being Atlanta and Olsen, Dodgers and
Freeman, Arizona and Walker, SF with Wade and Flores(hello Wilmer), and
the the Mets and Alonso. Total 1st basee production was 0.8 WAA and
about a 3WAR. Don't ask me how baseball-reference comes up with these
numbers but they seem earily accuratate every year.

Olson and Freeman are lightyears better than Alonso. And at least based
on last year, he is not getting any better.

The best position players by WAR last seaons

1. Betts • LAD 8.3
2. Acuña • ATL 8.2
3. Olson • ATL 7.4
Semien • TEX 7.4
5. Seager • TEX 6.9
6. Freeman • LAD 6.5
7. Henderson • BAL 6.2
8. Ohtani • LAA 6.0
9. Lindor • NYM 6.0
10. Riley • ATL 5.9

I didn't understand why the Mets didn't pursue Seager or Olson, not the
mention Murphy.

Alonso is not even in the top 10 of raw slugging.

Should I even bother to compare Pete to Jaun Soto? Soto's lifetime 162
averagee for war is 5.9 and Pete is 4.1

Just to say it, Carlos Correa is 6.5war/162games AND that is after
bombing last season. He considers the Lindo, and Verlander, and
Schwerter deals as nothing (not to mention Nemo)?

So who can we compare Pete to. Well, there is Richie Sexton...and Rhys
Hoskins. Too be fair that is followed by Otani, and Cecil Fielder. and
then Olson..

Then there is the screaming that Cohen is so rich that costs don't
matter, which is bullshit. The Mets already have the largest, if not
then close to it, in baseball. If people think that a half a billion
dollars isn't noticed and felt by Cohen, they really are living in a
dream world. He has money, it it won;t last long at all if he keeps
blowing it like the last two seasons.

FINALLY, he is screaming that nobody wants to sign here. That is crap.
They only reason people don't want to come here is because Cohen isn't
really chasing anyone hard or we would have Blake Snell and 3 other
players. But you can not win like that. It has taken him 3 years to
figure out he needs a farm system.

The future of this team is not Alonso. It is Batty, and Alveraz and
whoever is on the farm. My fear is that those players aren't really
good enough. There is no Mike Trouts down there, especially if Kevin
Prada is a bust. And where is the pitching coming from?

The value of Pete will depend on his health and his OBP. He has got to
get on base. It kind of annoys me to hear Nimo say he is happy to chase
more balls now ahnd hit hit more HRs while allowing his OBP to shrink.
Those hitting coaches need to be fired.

The game of basbeall is all about the battle in that invisiable box
called the strike zone. 90% of what is important happens there and OBP
is the foundation to everything else that is good. Alonso needs to stop
chasing the low and outside pitch. They are retiring him AT WILL last
season.

If some team whats to give Alonso 400 million over 10 years... that is
fine. He can be gone. We really don't need a ten year contract.
Losing Alonso is not going to be like losing Seaver. The biggest
problem is the talent drain. Losing that kind of play for nothing is
hard. Getting another player like him shouldn't be that hard, if the
issue is just money. But they can not win like that. They need a pipe
line. A pipeline coveres up injuries and gives you depth.

The reason players will hesitate to come here is because Cohen mangled
the team last season and fired a very popular manager with the players
after a 100 win season. Players will look at that and say, "Do I want
to be exposed to that". There is a lot to be said for stability.
Hopefully Cohen is done using the team as a yoyo for his personel
enjoyment. The Correa fiasco, and the deGrom, Verlander, Schwertzer...
people look at that shake there heads. Nobody wants to come to NYC and
join the circus... especially in NYC.

They want to play baseball, get abmiration from the fans, and win a few
games.

If the Mets want to land someone like Juan Soto, they better look very
stable and promising this coming season and I have serious doubts about
them being promising. I do not see how they are going to get enough
people on base to win. They are full of easy outs... including Pete.

If I'm Alonso, I am focused on getting by OBP about 340, 350 better.
OBP of 320 is not going to cut it.
