In TV interview with Dalls Fox4, Michael Irvin denies rape allegation, says he's a longtime, platonic friend of accuser. (South Florida Sun-Sentinel)

Pro Football Hall of Fame member Michael Irvin defended himself Tuesday against allegations of sexual battery and said his accuser was a platonic friend of more than 10 years.

"I have never, ever, in that decade, we've never had any kind of dating relationship and we've never had any kind of sexual relationship or sexual relations in any way," Irvin, 51, told Fox 4 TV in Dallas. "She's like a little niece. She's been around me, she's been around my family, been out to eat with us. I considered her a friend."

The alleged sexual battery at the W Hotel was reported to Fort Lauderdale police on March 22. A week later, police said that Irvin was someone being investigated in the case and that he had not been charged with any offense and had not been arrested.

On Wednesday, Detective Tracy Figone said the status of the former Dallas Cowboy and University of Miami Hurricane has not been settled.

"We are actively investigating the case," Figone said. "We're treating it as seriously as we would any sexual battery case."

Documents that may have named Irvin, who is from Fort Lauderdale and went to St. Thomas Aquinas High School, or which described the alleged incident were heavily redacted. Irvin's name does not appear in the incident report and what the alleged victim may have said happened last month at the hotel, at 401 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., was also deleted.

In a longer version of the interview on YouTube, Irvin said that on March 21, he and some friends were at the Ocean Manor Beach Resort and, after midnight, moved their party to the Rock Bar. Both venues are on the beach.

Irvin said he offered his W hotel room to friends to sleep because he was going to the airport for an early morning flight.

Irvin said a male friend was with him and the woman in his hotel room, and that the male friend left.

He said during the Fox 4 interview that he was alone in the room with the alleged victim for "a short while, we were not there that long."

He showered, packed and left for his flight, and the woman accompanied him to the hotel lobby, Irvin said.

"We're acquiring the tapes," Irvin said. "We know, we've asked the W to preserve the tapes, they say they have the tapes, and it will show she that walked out of the room with me. And I tried to get her to go back into the room to go to sleep and sleep it off. There was nobody left in my hotel room drugged, passed out and taken advantage of."

Attorney Gloria Allred said in an email that she is representing the woman.

"All that she wants is justice," Allred wrote. "She has provided evidence to law enforcement in support of her allegations. We look forward to supporting her and to vindicating her rights."

Irvin has successfully fought legal troubles in the past.

--In 1997, a prosecutor declined to file charges against Irvin relating to an alleged assault against a man at a San Francisco nightclub.

--In 1996, police found cocaine in a Irving, Texas motel room. Irvin pleaded no contest to a felony cocaine possession charge. He was fined, ordered to perform community service and in 2000, successfully completed his probation sentence, according to news reports.

--In 2001, a Texas judge dismissed a "felony charge of possessing less than a gram of cocaine," the Associated Press reported, because a police search of a Dallas apartment was done without a warrant.

--In Broward County in 2010, the state attorney's office declined to charge him in an alleged sexual battery at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. The prosecutor said he did not have physical evidence from the 2007 alleged incident to support the charges and cited inconsistencies in the accuser's story that weakened the case, according to news reports.

Add the incident where he put out cigs on his teammate.

The guy is a con that slips out of trouble.

1. Playing prowess
For as much noise as Michael Irvin has made off the field, he's still a football player at his core. After a successful career at Miami that included a national title in 1987 and numerous school records, Irvin came to Dallas as the No. 11 pick of the 1988 draft. In his 12-year career with the Cowboys, he won three Super Bowls, was named to five Pro Bowl teams, set a bevy of Cowboys and NFL receiving records and earned NFL 1990s All-Decade Team honors. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007, choosing Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to introduce him before an emotional speech.

A decade later, he was still emotional this February about Jones getting into the Hall of Fame.

"You have changed the lives of so many of us and you have changed the game that so many of us loved," Irvin said at the team's 25th reunion of its Super Bowl run. "We thank you."

Irvin added: "Silver and Blue are the Cowboys' colors, but you look pretty damn good in gold. Welcome to the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

Irvin's most well-documented off-field incident came in the offseason of 1996. On March 4 of that year, Irvin was arrested in a motel room in Irving after an employee called police on noise complaints. Police testified that Irvin appeared "to be under the influence of something" when he opened the door. Police found Irvin with two topless dancers, former teammate Alfredo Roberts, and more than 10 grams of cocaine and one ounce of marijuana. Irvin and the two women with him were later indicted on second-degree felony charges of cocaine possession and misdemeanor marijuana charges. The ensuing hearings following his indictment included one man's arrest for attempted extortion of Irvin, as well as the arrest of a police officer for hiring a hit man to have Irvin killed. He eventually pleaded no contest, leading to four years of probation, a $10,000 fine and 800 hours of community service. He was also suspended for the first five games of the 1996 season.

3. He was just pulled from ESPN’s Super Bowl-week shows
Irvin will not make any of his scheduled NFL Network or ESPN appearances for the remainder of Super Bowl week after a woman complained about his conduct during an encounter Sunday evening in Arizona.

That gives the appearance that the hotel
fears the disclosures would harm their
position that tossing Irvin out of the hotel
was supposedly justified.

Of course, if the hotel is guilty of overre-
acting to an employee's complaint, that
would explain their hesitance to provide
the video & names, something the judge
has ordered them to stop doing.

The federal judge presiding over the case has
now set a deadline for Marriott to comply with
Irvin's request for the video.

Via the Dallas Morning News, Marriott has until
5:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday (February 28 2023?) to
respond. That doesn’t mean the video must be
produced by then; it only means that Marriott
must submit an actual response.

The hotel has already objected to the request
when it was in state court, citing attorney-client
privilege & work-product doctrine.

If Marriott does that this time, Irvin's attorneys
can file a motion ordering the hotel to provide
the video. Then the judge will have to make a
decision & things could get even uglier.

Along with the request for the video, Irvin has
named 3 witnesses in his court filing. They are
described as claiming that they witnessed Irvin’s
interaction with an unnamed Marriott employee
& that Irvin did not engage in any misconduct.
