fense” part is what makes the best soundbite,
& out of context it seems like a really ill-advised
approach to offense in 2023. After all, the Cow-
boys were 6th in rushing attempts in 2022 & it
correlated to a lot of 3rd-&-long situations, ...

.... which set Dak Prescott & the offense up to fail;
nearly half of Prescott’s league-leading 15 inter-
ceptions came on 3rd-&-long.

The Cowboys don’t need to run the ball more, they
need to run it better. & that’s what McCarthy was
talking about on Wednesday, aiming to improve
the run game’s efficiency overall. That’s one of the
reasons Schottenheimer is the new offensive coor-
dinator, as he’s excelled as a run-game designer
throughout his career.
