Where Game 5 ranks among worst losses in Warriors franchise history
The Warriors were embarrassed in Game 5's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies,

The Warriors were absolutely obliterated in Wednesday’s Game 5 against
the Memphis Grizzlies, 134-95.

At one point, it appeared Golden State was destined to break franchise
records for the worst loss in franchise history, trailing by as many as
55. But a late run by the reserve players kept it from nearing those
records.

There’s some added good news about the late push to make Game 5 only be
a 39-point loss: No team in NBA history has lost a playoff game by 40 or
more points and gone on to win the NBA championship during the same season.

Here’s a list of the worst playoff losses — and the worst losses overall
— in franchise history:

Worst playoff losses, Warriors franchise history

56 points — 126-70, April 21, 1973 vs. Los Angeles Lakers

50 points — 136-86, April 4, 1971 at Milwaukee Bucks

40 points — 138-98, April 21, 2014 at Los Angeles Clippers

40 points — 118-78, April 5, 1969 vs. Los Angeles Lakers

39 points — 134-95, May 11, 2022 at Memphis Grizzlies

36 points — 135-99, May 13, 1989 vs. Phoenix Suns
