Entering Friday more than $16M over the cap,
the Cowboys moved well under the 2023 salary
ceiling. They restructured the contracts of Dak
Prescott and Zack Martin ... .

These revisions cleared approximately $30M in
cap space for the Cowboys, who recently allo-
cated $10.1M to a Tony Pollard franchise tag.

This restructure will either bump up Prescott’s
2024 cap number or add more void years to his
deal, but it will drop the quarterback’s 2023 cap
figure from a historically high place. [actually,
they shifted the cap hit to 2024]

Prescott was set to carry a $49.13M cap number
this year. No player had previously played a sea-
son with a cap hit higher than $46M ... .

.... The team is also in talks with Tyron Smith about
a potential reworking ... . The team is trying to re-
duce Smith’s $17.6M cap number.

.... “I think just as [Tom] Brady became better &
better & more impactful on how they won as he
got into his career, I think that really [Dak] has
those qualities. I think he can get better,” says
Jerry Jones.

Comparing Dak to the GOAT, a highly dubious
effort on Jerry's part. Tom's Patriots won Super
Bowls in Tom's 1st, 3rd, & 4th years as starter.
Tom's interception% was highest in his 1st 6
years but Tom never had an interception% >
3.0%, 3.0% in 2004, whereas Dak just had an
interception% of 3.8%.

2007 to 2022, Tom's interception% was > 2.0%
just once, in 2009, 2.3%, at 2.0% twice, & under
2.0% all other seasons. Tom made the pro bowl
15 of 23 seasons, 65%, Dak made the pro bowl
in 2 of 7 seasons, 28% thus far, not making the
pro bowl in his last 4 seasons.
