The following highlights the importance
of the 1st round draft pick(s), & the de-
creased pro bowl chance in rounds 2 & 3;
notably, the Cowboys 2nd & 3rd round
picks are nearly identical in that respect;
sparse pro bowls in rounds 4 to 7, the ...

.... standouts include the year the listed
players were drafted & usually they have
multiple pro bowls or all-pro years. I'd like
to provide a lot more details - maybe I'll do
so in a follow-up to this post in which I'll
specify years as a Cowboy, non-Cowboy, ...

.... number of starts, & PFR Approximate
Values (AVs) albeit all that takes a lot of
work & not sure I'll be up to it but as it's
a slow period in NFL affairs, I might be
up to doing all of that:

Sidenote - Example of why I should go to
the effort to do all that work, a player who
had a lot of starts for the Cowboys with
rather high approximate values but that
I'd forgotten about for some reason, 4th
round draft pick in 2007 OT Doug Free, ...

.... 5 years with AVs 8 or 9, 6 years starting
all games at left tackle or right tackle, 114
starts in 8 seasons.

Sidenote 2 - You just never know, in 2005
the Cowboys drafted Jay Ratliff, an under-
sized defensive lineman in the 7th round,
& lo & behold, he made it to 4 pro bowls &
in 2009 he was all pro with a PFR AV of 18, ...

.... the best PFR AV of any Cowboys 4th to
7th round draft picks (including Dak Pres-
cott) in the following list.

Only 2 other Cowboys have had PFR AVs
that high in the following list:
o Micah Parsons (18-2021 & 19-2022)
o DeMarco Murray (18-2014)

1992 to 2022, 52 pro bowls, 18 all pros,
1 Hall of Fame (DeMarcus Ware)

Standouts: Micah Parsons-2021, CeeDee Lamb-2020,
Ezekiel Elliott-2016, Zack Martin-2014, Travis Frederick-2013,
Tyron Smith-2011, Dez Bryant-2010, DeMarcus Ware-2005,
Roy Williams-2002

~~~
https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/cowboys-2nd-round-picks-through-2022
1998 to 2022, 19 pro bowls, 2 all pros
Standouts: Trevon Diggs-2020, DeMarcus Lawrence-2014,
Sean Lee-2010, Andre Gurode-2002, Flozell Adams-1998
~~~

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/cowboys-3rd-round-picks-through-2022
1997 to 2022, 18 pro bowls, 3 all pros

Standouts: DeMarco Murray-2011, Jason Witten-2003,
Dat Nguyen-1999 (despite being 2nd team all pro in 2003,
did not make the pro bowl that year), Dexter Coakley-1997

~~~
https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/cowboys-4th-round-picks-through-2022
2006 to 2022, 4 pro bowls, no all pros
Standouts: Tyler Biadasz-2020, Tony Pollard-2019,
Dak Prescott-2016
~~~

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/cowboys-5th-round-picks-through-2022
1996 to 2022, no pro bowls, no all pros

Some 5th rounders have had many starts,
but none have had any pro bowls.

~~~
https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/cowboys-6th-round-picks-through-2022
2003 to 2022, 2 pro bowls, no all pros
Some 6th rounders with many starts, kicker
Nick Folk made the pro bowl as a rookie in
2007 & the only other pro bowl was in 2016
by WR/returner Dwayne Harris with Giants,
don't know why he made the pro bowl as his
stats were unimpressive
~~~

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/cowboys-7th-round-picks-through-2022
2004 to 2021, 4 pro bowls, 1 all pro

Some 7th rounders have had many starts

Standout: DE Jay Ratliff-2005 with 4 pro bowls
& 1 all pro, THE standout surpassing all 4th to
7th round draft picks (including Dak Prescott)
thus far, Jay's PFR AV of 18 in 2009 is the best
of any of the Cowboys 4th to 7th round draft
picks & only 2 other Cowboys (Micah Parsons
& DeMarco Murray) have had PFR AVs that high

~~~
The NFL reduced to 7 rounds in 1994.
