Warriors set Summer League roster, highlighted by James Wiseman
Wiseman is one of three lottery picks from previous years that is on
Golden State's Summer League roster for the seven games they'll play.

It’s not often that the defending NBA champions bring such a potentially
intriguing roster to Summer League.

But as the Golden State Warriors embark on their “two timelines” plan,
the month of July will be vital for their top young players to get some
game action.

James Wiseman is likely to play, something he only did twice with the G
League Santa Cruz Warriors in the 2021-22 season. The No. 2 overall pick
from 2020 last appeared in an NBA game on April 10, 2021 and has missed
101 consecutive regular-season games, in addition to the two play-in
games from 2021 and all 22 playoff games from 2022 as he recovers from a
knee injury.

The Warriors will have seven games scheduled for the Summer League, two
at Chase Center this weekend and then five in Las Vegas. Wiseman won’t
attempt to play until the Warriors head to Las Vegas, the team announced
Wednesday, but Golden State’s two 2021 lottery picks will have the
spotlight on them the entire way.

Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody figure to get some extended game action
after playing sporadically, but showing promise, throughout the
playoffs. Kuminga may also play this summer with the Democratic Republic
of the Congo’s national team, but it is assumed he will play at least
once with the Warriors.

Among the Warriors’ 2022 draft picks, the status of Patrick Baldwin Jr.
remains the biggest mystery. Selected at No. 28 — the same spot the
Warriors took Jordan Poole in 2019 — Baldwin is still rehabilitating an
ankle injury that hampered his lone college season and had his draft
stock plummet.

It isn’t certain if Baldwin can recover in time to play at any point in
July, but he expressed confidence in being able to play at his
post-draft news conference on Friday. Both he and Ryan Rollins, the 44th
pick, are expected to be on the Warriors’ 2022-23 regular-season roster.
Rollins will not participate this summer as he recovers from a stress
fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

Warriors fans can get a glimpse at these players here in the Bay Area,
as Golden State will host the California Classic on July 2 and 3. The
Warriors will face the Kings at 4:30 p.m. on July 2 and the Lakers at
the same time the next day. The Heat will also play against the Lakers
and Kings, respectively, at 2 p.m. on those days.

When the Warriors head to Las Vegas, they’ll face the Knicks at 5 p.m.
on July 8, the Spurs at 4:30 p.m. on July 10, the Celtics at 5 p.m. on
July 12 and the Thunder at 4:30 p.m. on July 15. There will also be one
additional game on either July 16 or July 17, which won’t be determined
until after the first four games are completed.

Seth Cooper, the Warriors’ G-League head coach in Santa Cruz, will lead
the two games in San Francisco. Warriors assistant and director of
player development Jama Mahlalela will be the head coach for the games
in Las Vegas.

Here’s the roster for the Warriors’ Summer League slate:
