Warriors’ James Wiseman won’t play in California Classic, eyes chance to
return in Las Vegas
James Wiseman was a full participant in practice Wednesday but the
Warriors said he won't play this weekend at Chase Center.

SAN FRANCISCO — James Wiseman was a full participant in practice
Wednesday, but Warriors fans will have to wait a little longer to see
the former No. 2 overall pick in action.

Wiseman won’t play in the California Classic this weekend at Chase
Center as he continues to get reps after a knee injury sidelined him for
the entire 2021-22 season. The goal is for him to play in the latter
part of the Las Vegas portion of Summer League.

Wiseman suffered a meniscus injury in April 2021 during a game in
Houston and hasn’t played in NBA action since. The Warriors were
initially hopeful he would return before last season, but that timeline
was pushed back several times due to setbacks before he was ultimately
shut down in March after swelling in his surgically repaired knee
persisted following three G League games with the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Since then, he’s progressed in his recovery, returning to some on-court
activities. He’s recently been seen shooting jumpers ahead of the
Warriors’ NBA Finals games.

Jonathan Kuminga and Patrick Baldwin Jr. also won’t play in the
California Classic. Kuminga is back home in Congo with his family, but
is expected to rejoin the team in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Baldwin is
recovering from an ankle injury that limited him to just 11 games last
season with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Moses Moody is expected to play this weekend at Chase Center.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Wiseman says he feels good:

Anthony Slater @anthonyVslater

James Wiseman went through a full practice today and said he/the knee
feels great: "I really want to play every (summer league) game."
Warriors are taking the cautious approach, easing him back into contact
before a targeted debut at some point in Vegas.
