Warriors notebook: Andre Iguodala ramps up, the plan for JaMychal Green

SAN FRANCISCO — Andre Iguodala is ramping up to potentially scrimmaging
soon, but his season debut is still up in the air.

“He had a really good workout right now. With some sprints and a lot of
work,” head coach Steve Kerr said Monday. “So he’s feeling well and
ramping up his activity for sure.”

The 38-year-old Iguodala is taking a cautious route back onto the court.
He played some heavy minutes early on last season and was limited to
just 31 games as he dealt with injuries well into the playoffs. He
signed back with the Warriors just before training camp began with a
strict plan drawn up by director of sports medicine Rick Celebrini to
help prevent injuries going forward.

The Warriors, though, are struggling on the defensive end — especially
off the bench — and could use Iguodala’s sharp defensive IQ to help
correct some of the blunders.

- JaMychal Green will play more 5

After an 0-5 road trip, the Warriors are making rotation changes in
hopes of sparking some flow off the bench. That means Jonathan Kuminga —
who sat out for three games this year — will become part of the regular
rotation. That comes at the expense of either JaMychal Green or James
Wiseman’s minutes.

Kuminga has played mostly at the three and four this year, but last year
he had some success playing at the five. Kerr said the team will look to
“scale down” some of their lineups and have Green at the five and,
maybe, Kuminga also getting time at the five. That could indicate fewer
minutes for seven-foot Wiseman.

“The first 10 games have been about looking at certain combinations,”
Kerr said. “I think we need to find better combinations for JK to play
with. Obviously he’s been out of the rotation for the last week or two,
but he’ll be back in there (Monday) and hopefully the groups we have him
without there will complement him and vice versa.”

- Vote day off

All 30 NBA teams will be off today on Election Day, a decision made by
the league to promote everyone to vote.

The Warriors and Kings wore black warm-up shirts that said “Vote” on the
front in big white letters. Kerr gave a speech to the crowd before
Monday’s game tipped off, urging people to register to vote.

“It’s symbolic, but it also gives players and coaches and team employees
a chance to vote tomorrow if they are in their home districts and it’s a
great message for fans and for everybody out there,” Kerr said to
reporters hours before. “We hope that people go out to the polls tomorrow.”
