Daniel Jones' agents and the Giants have "closed the financial gap significantly," reports Albert Breer of SI.

Jones' representatives are in New Jersey meeting with the team, per multiple reports.

There's little doubt that he's our QB going into next season, it's just
a question of how much or will he be tagged. Most fans prefer the
long-term deal but that may leave management with little room for
maneuvering; given they still want to re-up Julian Love and maybe Saquon
Barkley. Tagging him now may leave the team with some leeway with their
other FAs but I think it would hurt them in the long run

Ernie, I think it's actually the other way around. Tagging Jones makes the whole contract count against the cap in 2023 while a long term deal can lengthen out the cap hit. Tagging Jones makes it harder to sign others, especially Barkley.

I have to admit I'm not too smart when it comes to figuring out the
salary cap, dead money and all that other stuff. Glad the Giants signed
him for 4 years; now they can move on to bigger and better things, like
getting Julian Love's name on a contract.
