Of the 28 NFL teams in action yesterday, 11 scored 22 or more points (neither the Lions or Chiefs reached that number on Thursday night). Those 11 teams went 10-1, with of course the Chargers being the one.

Haven't been able to find exact numbers this morning, but I have to imagine teams that score 30 or more AND win the turnover battle by 2 or more win at least 98% of the time. The Chargers have now lost two straight such games to teams from Florida :)

Two more stats:

(1) Since 2000, teams that rushed for more than 200 yards, allowed
fewer than 100 rushing yards, did not turn the ball over and won the
turnover margin by at least two were 110-0 (per Popper).

(2) The Chargers' defense set a team record with 466 passing yards
allowed (per the AP).

Those are both incredible stats. Given the shootouts the Air Coryell teams used to get into, you'd think they would have given up 470-500 at least once.

Someday the Chargers are going to achieve the Holy Grail of losing - they'll simultaneously set records for biggest turnover margin lost with and biggest lead blown in the same game. Currently, those records stand at +7 (Tampa Bay lost to Pittsburgh 17-12 in 1983 despite winning the turnover battle 7-0) and 33 (the Vikings beat the Colts 39-36 in OT last year after trailing 33-0 at halftime). Somehow, some way, the Chargers will build a 34-0 lead thanks to 8 turnovers and then give it away to lose 35-34 without turning the ball over themselves.

They're actually pretty good at preventing turnovers. Last season they
were #7 in turnover differential, and tied for #5 in turnovers lost:

The problem is the defense and the crunch time mistakes.

And both land on Staley's lap. The defense had multiple penalties that extended drives and shortened the field. Stops turned into stupid penalties.
