It seems in the NFL, contracts and their extensions mean little to
nothing for the player. The numbers released to the press are very
impressive but they're not always what they seem. If they want more
upfront money in the form of a bonus, they get walloped with huge taxes.
If they back load it, they risk getting released before it kicks in.
That extension was a good signing for the Giants, not so much for Lawrence.
