Anthony Davis has arguably been the best player in the Warriors-Lakers
playoff series. That’s why his early exit from Wednesday’s Game 5 could
be such a massive moment for the rest of this week.

Davis exited midway through the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 121-106
win over the Lakers after getting hit in the head by Kevon Looney, with
the Lakers big man getting ruled out for the rest of the game with a
head injury shortly thereafter.

Davis scored 23 points and added nine rebounds in 32 minutes of action
on Wednesday.

TNT sideline reporter Chris Haynes reported that Davis was taken out of
the arena on a wheelchair with a towel covering his head. Davis appeared
visibly woozy on the bench after being substituted out and walked
gingerly from the bench toward the locker room at the next media timeout.

Davis was not seen after the game, but Lakers coach Darvin Ham told
media that Davis “seems to be doing really good already” after the coach
checked on him. Lakers guard Austin Reaves added, “We’ve seen him in the
locker room and he’s doing better.”

Haynes later reported that Davis “appears to have avoided a concussion”
after an early diagnostic test, and video shot by the Associated Press
showed Davis walking out of the arena on his own.

Thursday morning, Haynes reported that Davis is expected to play in Game
6, barring a major setback. As of 9:30 a.m., the Lakers had not
submitted their injury report for the game.

In the first four games of the series, Davis averaged 22.3 points, 14.5
rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.8 blocks and 1.8 steals per game. He also had
only missed one free throw, but missed two on Wednesday night.

Game 6 will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. in Los Angeles. If the
Warriors win to force a Game 7, it will be Sunday at 12:30 p.m. back up
in San Francisco.

Dieter Kurtenbach contributed to this report.
