Who cares about Republican voters? If Dems who outnumber them like 2-1
can’t muster enough interest to vote to stop the recall, they deserve to
lose.

I don't like the Dems strategy, which is to not run a strong candidate, just in case. I understand the thinking is that if they did then it would "legitimize" the recall election. But if they had then there'd be one decent Dem against 7 or 8 Repubs. The Dems better hit the airwaves hard now.

I can see both sides of that. The Dems actually tried that strategy during
the Gray Davis recall (Remember “Vote No on the recall, yes on
Bustamente”?) and it didn’t work. I could see that strategy resulting in
Dems or moderates voting for the recall if they think they can improve on
the incumbent. Plus that campaign message could be confusing.

I’m not 100% sure but I think what they are doing is the better
strategy…after all Dems are 2/3 of the state’s voters and they should be
able to easily stop the whole thing in its tracks especially when the front
runner on the other side is so clearly a Trumpian whacko who would be
unacceptable to 70% of the state’s voters.

But even if they lose, Elder will only have a bit over a year in office
with veto proof Dem majorities in the legislature…. The only real danger I
can see is if Feinstein dies during that short interval and Elder gets to
make the appointment but in the event he gets into office I see the lege
stripping him of that power posthaste.

So in the final analysis except for embarrassment I don’t think the stakes
are really that high. Of course this may be just the motivation problem the
Dems have.

Exactly, and that's what some of us are getting afraid of.

We need to vote to keep Newsom in, warts and all, as if our lives depend on them. We're seeing what's happening in a lot of these "Freedom" states.

He won't need that long.

I even see a scenario in which he could basically march to Sacramento with whatever military force he has the ability to muster, unseat the legislature as as corrupt as Newsom is, and go it alone.

He'd have a lot of support in doing so, if you take a look at cities like San Francisco these days.
