Entertaining football teams. I like the new Big 12. And being able to ignore Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M for much of the season will be nice for me.. Not great for TV payouts, but I don’t get any of that money so pffft. Texas will go from being a mediocre team in the Big 12 to a weak SEC team, like Texas A&M, and Oklahoma will become a mediocre SEC team. The schools will make more money, yay.

This is basically a backdoor way of getting rid of the Group of 5, once and for all. Too bad that the Big XII will effectively become Group of 5 level once this all finishes off.

This is an interesting viewpoint.....too bad for the big12, 98/100 others feel the exact other way and their perspective is "now that Oklahoma and Texas are removed from the big12, I will be able to ignore the Baylors, Texas Techs, TCUs,etc of the
world".....

Removing Oklahoma and Texas leaves the big12 without an anchor team(s). Every power conference(and the big12 is
no longer one after those two leave) has an anchor team(s). Some have several(the sec will have like 8 lol)...

I don't agree- now the group of five is bigger as a bunch of other schools(the remaining big12 schools who can't
get accepted somewhere else) have joined.

Also, I'm not sure this is the end of the moving about for the 'new big 12'.. Teams are still going to be looking to jump. Right now West Virginia is praying for an invite to the ACC, Texas Tech to the pac, ISU and Kansas to the bigten, etc.....now there is a good chance none of those come through because conferences want bigger fish, but maybe those conferences realize that only the SEC can truly go elephant hunting and settle for a warthog or whatever.

You do realize that in the 16 team SEC there will not be 8 dominant teams.
Maybe 2-3 will rise to the top and the others will have 2 or more
conference losses and will not have the same shine as they did when they
were dominating the Big 12.

the *quality* of the team doesn't diminish, however, and that will be taken into account. In fact being in the sec, even if the record is worse,
will probably make Oklahoma a better team due to more recruiting opportunities now.

When I say anchor program or dominant program, I'm not referring to the record any given year. Oklahoma and Texas are dominant and/or anchor programs.. The fact that the competition will
now be tougher in conference and OU may lose another game or two depending on their matchups any given year doesn't change that.

I don't agree that they 'won't have the same shine'. For most of us here, the reputation of Oklahoma lately was a pretty good but not great team who couldn't match up with the elite any given year....hence
the ass kickings when they do make the playoffs. # of playoff bids aside, nobody thinks Oklahoma had a better team all those years than Georgia for example(the year they met in the
playoffs was probably the closest they were)

But bottom line is Oklahoma and Texas(and Alabama and Georgia and Florida and on and on) are *bigtime* programs. The conference they are in doesn't make them a bigtime program.....they
are a bigtime program because they are.

As for playoff bids, well expansion of that is in the mix.....but even if it's not in the mix that bid that Oklahoma usually got will go to the SEC most years now. Of course it may not go to Oklahoma......it may go to Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc instead. Or yeah maybe Oklahoma or Texas.

I think once Texas and Oklahoma joins, if the playoff remains at 4 we are probably looking at an expectation of 2 bids for the SEC and 2 bids for everyone else(acc, pac12, bigten, and ND plus the group of five types)......now some years that may be 3 and some years that may be 1, but I think 2 on average is how it's going to shake out.

And that makes sense based on where the top programs in the country are. You've basically got Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, LSU. Auburn, Texas A&M(thats 8) vs Ohio State, Michigan,
Penn State, USC, Wisconsin, Oregon, Clemson(thats 7).....is the first group a little bigger/better in terms of profile? Sure, but it doesn't have to be exact.

now are there other teams on each side who could challenge any given year? Sure.....teams like Washington, Iowa, Tennessee(if they ever come back) could.....but for the most part those 15 are going to be
the teams that are going to be most likely to compete for a playoff year in and year out, and as you can see it's pretty even so a 2 vs 2 breakdown seems reasonable as well.

But back to your post- these fantasies some have that a conference can only have so many 'great' teams getting the glory and and as you add teams to the conference it takes away from their stature? Ummmm no......it doesn't work that way. If anything it's more likely that concentrating so many top programs in one conference will only enhance the brand of those schools....

Likewise, the rest of the big12 teams suddenly aren't in a better position to gain national prominence now without the competition of Oklahoma and Texas. With those two schools in the mix you had programs
who could at least dream of a special season and things breaking right and maybe making a playoff. Now it's questionable as to whether a team like TCU going 12-0 against that schedule in
that conference even draws interest?
